The double-zero wheel has 38 pockets and still pays 35:1. The house edge goes from 2.70% to 5.26%. Nothing else about the game changes — same layout, same bets, same feel — which is precisely why it survives: the version that costs twice as much is indistinguishable at a glance from the version that does not.
There is also a bet unique to this wheel, the five-number basket covering 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. It runs at 7.89%, the worst bet on the table.
