Sic Bo

How to play it well

The decisions that actually move the number, and the version of the game worth looking for.

  1. Small and Big — betting the total lands between 4 and 10, or 11 and 17 — are the value bets on the table.
  2. Specific triples pay enormously and land almost never. That is the trade, and it is clearly signposted.
  3. Totals of 4 or 17 sit in between: good payouts, reasonable frequency.
  4. Paytables differ between operators on identical bets, so the same wager is not priced the same everywhere.
  5. The layout looks complicated and is not. There are really only three or four bets worth knowing.

Same game, same stake: 30 hrs of play against 2 hr 46 min. Worth two minutes checking which table you are on.

Sic Bo is three dice and a layout with about fifty bets on it, and the spread between the best and worst is the widest of any game in the casino.

Small and Big — betting the total falls between 4 and 10, or 11 and 17 — run at 2.78%, which is respectable. Specific triples, betting that all three dice show a particular number, run at 30.09%. Both bets are on the same felt, a few centimetres apart, and the table gives you no indication that one costs eleven times the other.

If you play it, play Small and Big. The rest of the layout is decoration.

Things worth knowing

  • Specific triples at 30.09%
  • Single-number bets, around 7.9%
  • Pay tables that vary by operator on the same bet
