What makes video poker different from everything else here is that the pay table is printed on the screen before you play. The edge is not hidden in the rules; it is a list of numbers you can read. The name 9/6 refers to two of them: nine coins for a full house, six for a flush. Drop those to 8 and 5 and the same game, same strategy, same everything, costs 2.72% instead of 0.46%. Nearly six times more, for two numbers on a screen.
The figure also assumes five coins bet, because the royal flush pays disproportionately more on the fifth coin. Playing fewer is throwing away most of the value.
