Bonus Poker pays extra for four of a kind and takes the money back by trimming the full house and flush rows. On the common 8/5 table that works out to about 1.54% — three times Jacks or Better, still cheap by any other standard.
The appeal is the shape rather than the price. Four-of-a-kind payouts are large enough to build a session around, which makes the game swingier and the dry spells longer. You are paying roughly one percent a hand extra for that.
As always the pay table decides everything. There are Bonus Poker variants running from under 1% to well over 4%, all wearing the same name.
